These medallions were not made from metal that was flown into space but instead with metal used in the launching of the space craft or of some historical significance in the space program. These were generally given out as awards or presented at special events by NASA and/or it contractors. Some of these were sold to the public, such as the Port Canaveral medals and the Dryden series.
