Additional Information:
In 1969 NASA launched Apollo 11; this historic mission carried Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr to the moon and marked the first time man had ever stepped foot on the moon's surface. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of this historic event and is celebrated with this 1 oz. silver medal struck as a near perfect replica of the Robbin medals produced for the Apollo 11 mission. A unique aspect of this medal is its metal content, which contains an alloy of the actual metal from spacecraft used on the Apollo missions! This material has been filtered of any impurities and has been added to an antiquing solution carefully applied to each medal.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the moon-landing with a replica of the Robbins Medal
Featured on the obverse is the original design of the Apollo 11 Robbins medal: an American bald eagle clasping an olive branch in its beak and landing on the surface of the moon. Inscribed in bold letters above the design reads, "APOLLO 11." This design was also employed on both the Eisenhower (1971-1974, 1977-1978) and Susan B. Anthony (1979-1981, 1999) dollars.
The reverse of the medal is also a replica of the back of the original Robbins medal with the added commemorative dates of "50th ANNIVERSARY" and "1969-2019." Displayed across the rest of the medal are the names of the three astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission along with the dates of launch, the lunar landing, and the return of the mission.
