Additional Information:
The Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, Texas hosted a luncheon in honor of Walt Cunningham and the 40th anniversary of Apollo 7 on Friday, October 17. There were goody bags on the chairs which had a neat video, a couple of space related magazines, an Apollo 7 tribute medallion, eye glass cleaner, a space pen and for some lucky people a red ticket for an autographed copy of Walt's audio version of "All American Boys". The Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, Texas, the location of the Apollo 7 Command Module on loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, celebrated the 40th anniversary of Apollo 7's flight with a commemorative coin that includes an enameled representation of the original Apollo 7 patch. As indicated by the lettering, the coin contains metal from the Apollo 7 spacecraft; specifically, fragments of the reflective Kapton thermal tape covering and of a 16mm data acquisition cable. The metal fragments were graciously donated for this project by Mr. Jerry Czubinski of Houston, Texas, and documentation of the provenance of the metal fragments is on file at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. The coin is 3mm thick and 39mm in diameter. Of a limited edition of 500 numbered coins, 100 were offered to the collectSPACE community. CollectSPACE is proud to be the sponsor for the creation of these commemorative medals, of which the majority were presented as gifts to the attendees at the private luncheon celebrating the crew and mission of Apollo 7.
